Voice Up Empowers Bangladeshi Student's Gender Equality Mission

International nonprofit organization supports grassroots initiative to elevate female entrepreneurs in Bangladesh

GLOBAL - A promising partnership between Voice Up, an emerging social impact organization, and Tamoso Deep, a gender equality advocate from Bangladesh, is set to amplify the voices of female entrepreneurs across South Asia through an innovative eight-week internship program.

Tamoso, who identifies as a gender activist, has dedicated over a decade to promoting gender justice in Bangladesh, a country where despite regional progress on gender indices, inequality remains widespread. His latest initiative focuses specifically on highlighting the stories of female entrepreneurs to create meaningful economic and social change.

"I want to highlight the stories of female entrepreneurs of Bangladesh and uplift their lives," Tamoso stated in his Voice Up planning document. The project aims to showcase women's success stories and build portfolios that demonstrate their achievements while establishing networks of potential buyers and sponsors.

Addressing Critical Gender Gaps

Bangladesh continues to face significant gender equality challenges despite appearing to perform well in regional comparisons. "The country often scores well regionally in the gender index but inequality is rampant. It affects everyone's lives here," Tamoso explained in his project proposal.

His approach recognizes both the urgency of the issue and practical limitations. "Since I'm not a woman myself, there are certain limitations when I'm attempting to work on this issue," he acknowledged during a recent Voice Up planning meeting. "That's why I chose the entrepreneurs, because they are actually already out there. They're selling their products in the market. They have their online presence."

Strategic Focus on Accessible Impact

Rather than attempting broad-scale change, Tamoso has strategically focused on female entrepreneurs who already have market presence and social media visibility. This approach allows him to reach participants more easily while documenting stories that can inspire broader change.

"Many entrepreneurs start their business online, so it is relatively easier to reach them as well," he noted in his planning documents. His research methodology emphasizes first-hand accounts over statistical data, recognizing that "nothing beats first hand accounts" when it comes to understanding real experiences.

Voice Up's Collaborative Support Model

Voice Up, founded in November 2024 by Art Fuller, operates on five core principles: collaboration, humility, precision, patience, and empathy. The organization's unique approach provides personalized eight-week development plans for participants while connecting them with global networks of like-minded changemakers.

"What we do is based on your answer, we kind of have a template, a form, all of those things that you fill out, provide more details, and then what we do is this, we take the exact things that you're saying you have in your mind and in your heart that you really want to pursue, and we literally create a detailed plan that is in eight week increments," Fuller explained during Tamoso's orientation interview.

The organization's rapid expansion has reached 3,540 cities across 122 countries globally, including 2,721 cities in the United States and 153 cities in India, with Tamoso potentially becoming their first representative in Bangladesh.

Building Sustainable Networks

Tamoso's vision extends beyond storytelling to creating lasting economic impact. "If I can establish a network of potential buyers or sponsors for the entrepreneurs and their products I highlight, I will consider myself successful. I aim to transform it into a business network if possible," he stated.

His success metrics focus on practical outcomes rather than abstract goals, emphasizing the creation of tangible opportunities for the women whose stories he documents.

Overcoming Resource Constraints

Despite budget limitations that currently prevent video content creation, Tamoso plans to leverage written content, social media, and visual media like infographics. "There is no substitute for social media when it comes to reaching diverse audiences," he noted, while acknowledging that "effective outreach requires the support of a community."

Voice Up's collaborative model addresses this challenge by potentially connecting Tamoso with international networks and resources that could amplify his local efforts.

International Implications

This partnership represents a growing trend of international organizations supporting grassroots advocates in developing countries. For international students, Tamoso's approach demonstrates how local knowledge combined with global platforms can create meaningful social impact.

"Female entrepreneurs are the starting point for me to get involved with gender activism in Bangladesh and reach out to the local community here," Tamoso explained, illustrating how specific, achievable goals can contribute to broader social change movements.

The initiative also highlights the potential for cross-cultural collaboration, as Voice Up's global network may provide Tamoso with connections to markets and supporters beyond Bangladesh's borders.

Future Prospects

As Tamoso prepares to begin his formal eight-week program with Voice Up, his project could serve as a model for similar initiatives across South Asia and other regions facing gender equality challenges. The combination of local expertise, international support, and digital platforms offers a replicable framework for grassroots advocacy.

The partnership between Voice Up and advocates like Tamoso suggests that meaningful social change increasingly relies on connecting passionate individuals with supportive communities and practical resources, rather than top-down institutional approaches alone.
